Worth knowing
High performance ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a material that is great for rugged and durable parts that can withstand high temperatures. This material was one of the first plastics used for industrial 3D printing.
Today, ABS is still a very popular material in 3D printing due to its low cost, good mechanical properties, and vibrant colors. It is known for its toughness and impact resistance, giving users the ability to generate durable and resilient parts. In addition, ABS impresses with its high glass transition temperature and thus good heat and dimensional stability. Due to its scratch resistance, ABS also offers a wide range of post-processing options. In addition, this material is suitable for coating with metals (electroplating) and other polymers.
However, low UV and moderate weathering resistance should be noted.
Application examples:
Household and consumer products, automotive and electronic parts, motorcycle helmets, toys (e.g. Lego), housings and operating parts, transport containers.
Advantages
- high stiffness and good impact resistance
- good heat resistance up to 100 °C
- scratch resistance
- suitable for consumer parts
- wide range of colors
Processing information
- Space-filling printing possible
- good reprinting and reworkability
- possibility of coating with metals and polymers
